Much Marcle - Three Counties 2003

What a fabulous weekend we all had at Much Marcle. This popular event keeps growing in size and popularity. It attracts some of the largest models in the UK to the Hereford region for people to enjoy and does some good fund raising for local charities as well. Well done Colin Clarke and his able team. The weather was perfect and the sun shone brightly. It was more like June than early September. This brought out the crowds who were able to enjoy some splendid flying.

A few pictures from the weekend are shown below.

 

Steve Holland takes off his 50% scale Zlin aerobatic aircraft. He flys aerobatics at a scale speed with great  precision. The spectators were enthralled by his much acclaimed display.

 

 

A very nice Yak 3 by the excellent builder, Rick Stevens.

 

 

Andy Johnson demonstrates another of his famous low passes with the Wellington.

 

 

Ray Slack starts his Skyraider. The engine, built by Ray, just sounds wonderful with its low frequency radial growl.

Flew very realistically too.

 

 

John Townsend's Stearman looked realistic.

 

 

The Pitts 12 is powered by a 3W 150 cc engine and flown by James Morris. The model has more power than weight and so can hover to demand. This was amply demonstrated over the weekend when it amazed the spectators hovering only inches from the ground. It also has a very effective smoke system and could descend through the smoke and disappear!

Steve Holland also brought along his Comet, flown, as always, with great skill.

 

 

New to the flying circuit this year is Ian Turney-White's Bulldog. Another fabulous model and great achievement. The scale detail is a real credit to Ian's building skills.  Here, Ian and Steve Holland hold onto the model during final engine testing before another flight.

 

 

 

The model looks good in the sky too. 

 

 

 

So to the awards. At the end of the weekend there is always the presentation of some awards to help thank pilots for their contribution over the weekend. The awards were presented by Colin Clarke and handed out by Dave Johnson, the LMA Chairman.

 

Paul Savage for the best landing of a World War I model.

Ken Forte was awarded for the best post-war model with his Turbulent.

 

Alan Brown best non-scale contribution to the show.

Ian Turney-White was awarded the 'best of show' for his Bulldog.

 

John Townsend receives a trophy for the 'between wars' aircraft with his Stearman.

Steve Holland, best aerobatic flight with his Zlin.
