Gordon Whitehead's Banner Tug starts the
show.

 

Flat calm winds, wall-to-wall sunshine and temperatures soaring into the mid 30’s, what could be better for holding a model flying event. The show was well attended by aero modellers and the public alike.


I am sure that all LMA members would like to join me in thanking all the flight line staff, TX control guys and the organisers of the event, all did a great job, and helped make sure the show ran safely and smoothly. The event was well attended by the public as the picture opposite shows.

 

   

The usual range of aircraft was present like the USAAF guys and the Ghost Squadron's collection. There were some new models which I hadn’t seen on the circuit before. One which really interested me was Hans Klammer's DC10 with AMT Mercury Jet Engine which came to Rufforth from Belgium. The aircraft was finished in the KLM airline colour scheme and looked very realistic in the air.

 

   

Robin Woodhead's nearly finished Lockheed Orion was on show. The model is 17% scale and weighs 50kg.

   

 

Roger Bale's 14% scale Vickers Vimy has been flying well all year.

 

 

Ian Turney-White was present with his Avro Triplane and Bristol Bulldog.

Mike Standing, from Wales, flew the Piper Cub very well over the weekend.

 

 

Where would a model show be without a Spitfire or two.

   

 

  Dave Johnson's Vulcan flew well and impressed the crowd as it has all year.

 

 

The Turboprop powered Turboraven Oracle performed very well and certainly entertained the crowd with its stunning flying display and unusual prop sound.

As Rufforth is an active airfield, All flying stopped in the evening for a couple of hours for the glider school to open. Many modellers, including myself, took advantage of a flight in a glider. What an experience!!
