CAA Regulation Review – LMA Guidance on how to respond

The CAA have published an important consultation on the future regulation of unmanned aircraft, which includes model aircraft and how we fly them.

Along with the BMFA, the LMA has come up with a document that endeavours to explain what the propose changes mean for you, and gives some suggested answers to the CAA’s questions.

The response document can be read here

The CAA consultation is open until 10 January 2024, you can read the full consultation and respond on the CAA website here

Please have a look at the consultation, our document and respond to the consultation. The more responses from model flyers the better!

If you disagree with anything in the document, by all means respond to the CAA with your views.

The main issue for us is the proposal to introduce mandatory remote ID (RID) to every unmanned aircraft that flies in the UK, including model aircraft. The CAA have in their proposal an exemption for model aircraft flown by members of an association like the LMA or BMFA, but it’s still a pain and a lot of work!

RID is not anything to do with over 25kg flight data recorders, and does not change anything to do with them.

Any questions, as ever just ask
